Always a good way to test it in a friendly environment: come to GalaCon

There, we have attendees from literally all over the world, the common language, of course, has to be English (we use German when only German speakers are present on the spot, too, of course). For many of them who come from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, France, the French speaking part of Switzerland, Belgium, Israel, the Netherlands, Indonesia and so on, English is a foreign language, too, the fewest of them are native speakers

And even the native speakers from Great Britain, USA, Canada and Australia know that for most other people English isn't their native language; if you don't understand something, you can always ask again what they meant or for them to speak a bit slower, and they will do it - it's a very good way to use, practice and improve your active language skills in a nice and friendly environment
