Blanche is sitting in the train and she is on the way to her sister who lives in New Orleans. Then a man in suit comes in and sits down on front of Blanche.
M= Man; B=Blanche
M:Hello, madame.
B:Hello.
M:Why is such a beautiful woman like you traveling alone?
B:Because I'm going to visit my sister. And where are you going? I bet you have something important to do. I can see this based on your suit, it's an an very expensive one.
M:Yes, I actually have something important to do. I have a meeting in New Orleans.
B:New Orleans? Really? I'm going to New Orleans, too.
M:I think it must be destiny that we met here. And I see that you must be well-off. Your clothes aren't the cheap kind I used to see on other women.
B:Yeah, I always take care of a good appearance. I would never buy something cheesy. I have high demands to the clothes I buy. You have to know: I'm from the DuBois family and our family is known for our wealth. But I and my sister are the only one who are left. I live in my great home Belle Reve alone. You have to see it. It's simply magnificent. But I'm often lonely, so I'm happy about every guest. Hah...I'm talking and talking. I didn't even mentioned my name. I'm Blanche. Blanche DuBois.
M:I'm George. It's a pleasure to meet you Miss DuBois. You said you are going to visit your sister. She lives in New Orleans. Am I right?
B:Yes. I haven't seen her for a long time. I wonder where she lives. I bet she lives in a stunningly beautiful house. But of course it couldn't be as good as Belle Reve. Belle Reve is just outstanding. The house front, the decoration. It's all amazing. We have a big land. I remember as if it was yesterday: Me and my sister, we always played on the field near by our house. I remember the smell of the grass during the morning dew. The field we had looked endless for me. It was so quite. There were no noises like in the big city. All the ground there was belonged to us and there was nobody else, just the DuBois family. I remember that we played sometimes hide and seek. I always lost, 'cause I didn't wanted to get my clothes dirty. But my sister...Ah my little sister. She never feared the mud or was afraid of getting dirty. She squeezed herself into every hole she could find. She did everything she could to not be found. One time she climbed on a tree. It took me one hour to find her. I was so upset and I asked not to do this again, because it took me too much time to find her. She agreed, but only a few hours later she did it again. She always found a way to provoke me. My little sister. Yeah, she was a special kind of girl. But that is the past and she has grown up to a real lady a long time before. So many years passed since we have seen the last time.
M:It looks like you miss your sister a lot.
B:Yes I do.
M:Maybe you need a drink. I travel a lot and a good drink always helps me to pass the hours. (he takes bottle of wine from his suitcase)
B:Look what a beautiful sunset! Only a few minutes are left and then the sun will hide until the next morning. Let us enjoy this moment. (the sun goes slowly down and the moon shows up) Now it is time for a drink.
M
he takes two cups from his suitcase and fills them with vine. He reaches one cup to Blanche) Here, I hope you will enjoy it. It is a very expensive one. I got it from Europe.
B:Well. Really, it is good, but I shouldn't drink to much. I don't want to get tipsy.
M:You wont get tipsy. Just drink one more with me for the beautiful sunset we just saw.
B:But only one. I think I cannot refuse it when it's for the sunset. Sharing a sunset always good. I always loves sunsets. My sister loved them too. We always watched the sunset from our window together. When the sun was behind the forest only a few sunbeams found their way out and reached our home. The hid more and more in the forest until no sunbeam reached us. And than a beautiful starlit sky like the one today showed up.
M
gives Blanche a drink)
B:For the sunset! (she drinks) Where did you said you get this? Europe?.
M:Yes, to be exact I got it from France.
B:It is a very good vine. You have to tell me: Who is the seller?
M:I would if I could, but this one was a gift from a friend.
B:He must be a good fried if he gives you such a precious gift. I'm well versed in vines and this one is no way a cheap one.
M: Yes he is, but in that way they must be all good friends. I think they only wanna curry favour with me.
B:Why do you think would they do this?
M:It's because of my job, but I don't want to talk about it now. What do you have for a job. I think it it is something unsuspected.
B:I am a English teacher.
M:This is unsuspected. I thought you would do something more...
B:...extravagant. There is no need for me to do a job like that. My family left enough money for me and my sister and of course I do have a high standard of. So I do not need a extravagant job. I love to spend time with children. That is why I became a teacher.
M:I do not doubt on the fact that you have high standards of live. I just expected something else from a woman like you. You are a very interesting person Miss DuBois and I just noticed that you have wonderful eyes.
B:Oh, thank you.
M
he looks at his watch) The train is late. I hope I'm not getting tardy.
B:For your meeting? What kind of meeting is this. You didn't tell me what your job is.
M:I do not like to talk about my job. I'm a businessman and I'm busy all day. So I'm happy when I can talk about something else. I do not have much free time. The time I spend in the trains is sometimes the only time I can relax. So if you don't mind I would like to talk about something else.
B:I can understand this. It is not easy to have a job with a high responsibility. I have the same problem. But I do not mean my job as a teacher. Sure a have a high responsibility as a teacher too. But I mean my appearance. I stand for the DuBois family, so have to look perfect all the time. It is like a full-time job.
(a man comes in)
Man 2:Sir Smith. We need your advice.
M:Sorry, Miss DuBois, but I have to go. This is client of mine. It was a pleasure to meet you and I hope we will meet again. Good buy Miss DuBois. (and even before Blanche could say a word he left.)
